Project Excellence sponsored by Hytera – CSE Genesis

Surf Life Saving Northern Region (SLSNR) administers lifesaving activities on the West coast from the Far North right down to Raglan, and on the East coast from Whangarei Heads down to Mairangi Bay an area that encompasses 17 surf lifesaving clubs, covering 24 beaches.

Genesis Communications (now CSE-Genesis) was awarded the project and implemented a comprehensive network replacement solution. CSE-Genesis’ Motorola solution fully met SLSNR’s objectives for a future-ready, digital platform that provided reliable communications to support lifeguards in their mission to protect, assist and save the beach going public from difficult and potentially tragic situations at the beach. The Digital Rescue Network was shown to be simple to use and learn, robust, with a range of additional useful features and the ability to be scaled up in terms of coverage, capacity and introduction of added-value technology.

Technical Excellence sponsored by Radio Activity – Downer Dunedin

The 2016 Kaikoura earthquake event is now an important part of New Zealand’s geophysical and human history. Immediately after the quake it was apparent that the community of Kaikoura was cut off and unparalleled damage to roading infrastructure had occurred. Downer ITS of Dunedin were approached to formulate a plan to provide an immediate communications network for the temporary remedial repairs of the Inland access road.

Apprentice of the Year sponsored by Push Wireless – Michael Hooper, Outback Communications

Michael joined Outback Communications in 2015 with only some very basic electrical knowledge as he had previously been fitting tow bars to vehicles and wiring up the trailer plug. Although Michael had limited knowledge he was keen and eager to learn. During his time with Outback Comms, Michael has been immersed in each part of our diverse service offering, thus allowing him to develop a range of technical skills. Michael is halfway through an Auto Electrical apprenticeship which has also helped to formalize his electrical knowledge.

Matt not only manages the technical side of this customer but also manages the sales and development of this relationship. Matt’s focus is to continually improve the offering to the customer and ensure that the vehicles are future proofed for new technology advances.
